American Airways Ford Trimotor Plane In 1926 Henry Ford began producing the first plane designed for passenger service. The Tin Goose carried 12 to 14 passengers seated in wicker chairs at speeds up to 110 miles per hour. While Henry Ford's reputation may have allayed the fears of some passengers, the ride itself was very noisy, turbulent and not much faster than traveling by train.
